TO:  ALL FAMILY MEMBERS

Date Updated: March 9,2016

HELLO FAMILY,

OK, OK, OK…Now’s the time to get serious about attending the upcoming reunion in the big ATL this year.  I previously sent information I received from the Atlanta group with interesting tidbits on the happenings inAtlanta, places to eat and see.  I sent information on the tours---only received one city’s response…guess the rest of you aren’t interested in any of the tours. If you are, please respond to my email. Call me if you need another copy.

But let’s not forget the amazing time we had in “Da Ville” last year. Thank you Louisville for a great reunion—especially all of the gifts that were given out at the reunion dinner. Everyone went home with a gift regardless if they played the games and that was very special.

I also personally thank everyone who took time to visit with Dad while in the city. WE THANK EVERYONE WHO ALSO HONORED HIM BY YOUR PRESENCE AT HIS HOMEGOING SERVICES. He is greatly missed.

I am enclosing a copy of the registration form and tentative agenda from Atlanta.  Just a reminder that you can also print the form at
www.johnson-barnes.com website, register and pay your reunion fee via PayPal.  Information has been added to the web site for this year’s reunion.  The History page has also been updated with dad’s memorial video under “Our Founder”.

Just a reminder that the cost for the reunion is:

  • $150 per adult (based on double occupancy)
  • $35 children 11 to 17 and$25 children 5 to 10 and 0 for children 4 and younger.
  • This is the cost for those in the ReunionFund.
  • The cost for individuals not in the fund is $75 adults (no hotel room) and $35 for children.
  • The cost for Saturday banquet only is $50.00.

Another reminder is if you committed to being a part of the Johnson-Barnes Reunion Fund, you cannot pick and choose which amount you want to pay each year….enough said.

THE DEADLINE FOR ALL PAYMENTS IS MAY 15, 2016. Hotel cutoff date is May 30, 2016.

I know the Atlanta group is really working hard to make this an “exceptional” reunion this year and I am so looking forward to being in the “real” south this year.  So let’s get the $$$$ rollin’ early enough to give ATL an idea of the number of family members who will be coming this year from the north, south, east and west!

God Bless you all and I’ll see ya in Atlanta…Lord willing and the creek don’t rise!
Love Always,

Christine

Welcome to Atlanta Family!

We are very excited to host the 44th Annual Johnson/Barnes Family Reunion in Atlanta from June 24th - 26th this year. Atlanta is becoming an ever changing city with more people moving here every year, there’s always a lot to do and see while in town. One thing many people don't know is that Atlanta has become the Hollywood of the South, with many of the top grossing films of recent years being shot in and around the metropolitan area. Hunger Games, Ride Along, and Selma were all shot in the Peach state. At any given time, up to a dozen TV shows and movies are being filmed in and around town, and because of this, star sightings are very common.

Another great thing that the Atl is known for is amazing food. Just about everyone down South, either has a relative or is the relative that can throw down for Sunday dinner, so the restaurants have to raise the bar to impress their diners, and present some of the greatest cuisine to be found. In Atlanta, every palette can be satisfied whether you are looking for upscale and high class at the Revolving Sun Dial restaurant, or down-south, home-style cooking at Mary Mac's Tea Room.

Here are a few of our faves:

  • The Varsity- Iconic drive-in serving classic fast food
  • The Busy Bee Cafe - Food with soul
  • Mary Mac's Tea Room- Southern classic food
  • Gladys Knight's Chicken and Waffles- name says it all
  • Pascal's- Fine dining soul food
  • The Sundial- Revolving upscale restaurant

Whether this is your first time, or your 50th time, you will always find something new to do in Atlanta. The city is constantly undergoing changes. Currently, we are in the process of building a new football arena to be named the Mercedes Benz Stadium scheduled to open for the 2017 football season. Since the last reunion held in Atlanta in 2001, the Georgia Aquarium which is the largest aquarium in the world, has opened, downtown Atlanta has input a streetcar (like a trolley) that allows you tour and ride around the city for only $1, and the Belt-line has been created as a loop of interconnected walking or bike riding trails to preserve nature in and around the city.

Visit the link "Atlanta Tours". For our reunion, we would like to offer a choice between 3 fabulous group tours to either, the World of Coke, the Center for Civil and Human Rights, or the College Football Hall of Fame. If we get a group of at least 25 or more for each attraction we will qualify for the group rate.
